Located in rural Carlton, Oregon, Ken Wright Cellars is devoted to showcasing the inherent quality of selected vineyard sites. With a clarity and breadth that is unequaled by other varieties, they believe Pinot Noir best expresses the character of these sites. Rather than stamping wine with a varietal trademark, they see Pinot noir as a vehicle for conveying the aroma, flavor and texture of the location in which it is grown.
What really counts: Well over twenty years of winemaking have taught them a simple truth. Source is everything. When you work with sites that have a “ton” of character, great things can happen. These great things cannot happen without a commitment by the vineyard owner to the health of the vineyard and extremely low crop levels that ensure intensity of aroma, flavor and texture.
Ken Wright Pinot Noir Shea
Subdued, but lovely aromas of red plums, wild berries and grilled meat. A bolt of dark red and black fruits attacks the palate with a vengeance, clothed in ripe tooth-sticking tannin and sporting a lively grip of acidity.
Ken Wright Pinot Noir Freedom Hill
Cranberry fruit flavors are augmented with some pretty whiffs of incense.
Ken Wright Pinot Noir Guadalupe
The vineyard consistently produces small berries and clusters that are intensely colored. The wine possesses the character of black fruits, cocoa, leather and earth.Â
Ken Wright Pinot Noir Meredith Mitchell
This is bold and striking aromas with plenty of tart, tangy cherry fruit. WS 91
