Emilio Moro Malleolus de Sancho Martin 2006

The opaque purple-colored effort is sourced from the 1.72 acre Pago de Sancho Martin vineyard planted in 1964. It provides a brooding aromatic array of roasted herbs, toasty new oak, incense, and blackberry. It is immense, muscular, and dense. All of the Bodegas Emilio Moro wines are 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo). RP 97

Emilio Moro Malleolus de Valderramiro 2006

This is sourced from a single 85-year-old vineyard bearing its name. It was aged for 18 months in new French oak and is opaque purple-colored, with legs that ooze slowly down the side of the glass. It sports a great bouquet of roasted herbs, pain grille, espresso, incense, blackberry, and black cherry. Opulent and layered in the mouth, it is dense and still tightly wound with the requisite ripe tannin to evolve effortlessly for 8-10 years. RP 95

Finca Allende Calvario 2004

This wine is sourced from a single vineyard planted in 1945 and is composed of 90% Tempranillo, 8% Grenache, and 2% Graciano. The wine was aged for 14 months in 100% new French oak and bottled unfiltered. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up an expressive nose of toast, vanilla, spice box, floral elements, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur which leaps from the glass. This is followed by a mouth-filling wine with oodles of flavor, great definition, and plenty of ripe tannin leading to a finish lasting nearly a minute. RP 95

Muga Torre Muga 2005

The wine is composed of 75% Tempranillo, 15% Mazuelo, and 10% Graciano. Purple-colored and made in a more international style, it presents a brooding bouquet of pain grille, mineral, incense, and blackberry. Massive on the palate, the wine has tons of material, great density. RP 94

Vall Llaach Vall-Lach 2005

The wineis composed of 65% Carinena, 15% Syrah, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Merlot aged for 12 months in new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up a splendid aromatic array including pain grille, slate, mushroom, espresso, garrigue, blueberry, and black currant. Opulent, full-bodied, and rich, this is pedal to the metal Priorat. RP 96+

Vinedos de Paganos La Nieta 2006

The wine is 100% Tempranillo from Finca La Nieta, planted in 1975. Malolactic fermentation was in new French barriques followed by 18 months in new French oak. Purple in color, it delivers a fragrant, alluring bouquet of roasted herbs, incense, blueberry, and blackberry. Opulent, dense, and layered, this promising wine has tons of fruit, soft tannin, and superb length. RP 96

Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza Rioja 2005

This purple/black-colored wine has a great aromatic array of pain grille, lavender, spice box, and blackberry. Broad, mouth-filling, layered, and structured, this Rioja has all the right stuff. RP 96.
