GEMS FROM THE 1990s
1 – 750 ml bottles each – 7 bottles total
Château St. Jean Cinq Cepages 1996
The dark ruby/purple-colored wine is made of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. It exhibits a moderately intense nose of black cherries, chocolate, smoke, dried herbs, and toasty oak, offering elegance and finesse along with copious quantities of fruit, glycerin and flavor. RP 92
Taylor Fladgate Port 1994
This classically made, opaque purple-colored wine is crammed with black fruits (blueberries and cassis). It reveals high tannin and a reserved style, but it is enormously constituted with massive body, a formidable mid-palate and exceptional length. RP 97
E&E Black Pepper 1998
This wine is ripe, plush and generous with its gorgeous blueberry, raspberry and plum fruit, shaded with meat and black truffle notes that weave through the long, cushiony finish. This has plenty of power and elegance. WS 95
Carruade de Lafite 1995
The 1995 is a 40% Merlot/60% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. It exhibits more of the trademark characteristics of its bigger sibling. Elegant, with spicy new oak and creamy black currant fruit, this is a medium-bodied, finesse-styled wine with excellent purity and overall equilibrium.
Les Fort de Latour 1996
The dense ruby/purple-colored wine is exceedingly tannic, with cassis and mushroom-like notes in the aromatics. This full-bodied wine is impressively constituted and one of the finest Forts de Latours of the last two decades. RP 90
Château Lafite Rothschild 1998
A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, this wine represents only 34% of Lafite’s total harvest. It has been spectacular since birth, putting on more weight and flesh over the last year. This opaque purple-colored 1998 is close to perfection. The spectacular nose of lead pencil, smoky, mineral, and black currant fruit soars majestically from the glass. The wine is elegant yet profoundly rich, revealing the essence of Lafite’s character. The tannin is sweet, and the wine is spectacularly layered yet never heavy. The finish is sweet, super-rich, yet impeccably balanced and long (50+ seconds). RP 98
Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill 1995
This wine is lean and austere, with a mix of mineral, earth, red currant and briary, cedary notes. Firmly tannic, too, though the fruit pushes through on the finish.
