Shirvington Shiraz 2006

This wine was barrel-fermented and aged for 14 months in 85% new oak, with the barrels 90% American and 10% French. Saturated purple in color, it reveals a splendid bouquet of smoke, bacon, grilled meat, and blueberry. Supple-textured and opulent, this full-bodied Shiraz offers a range of spicy, complex flavors, superb balance, and enough well-concealed tannin. RP 95

Betz and Scholls Black Betty 2006

This wine is saturated ruby in color and has expansive bouquet of blackberry and cherry preserves, Asian spices and cola. Floral notes emerge with air and carry onto the palate, joining sweet red and dark berry flavors. Dusty tannins add gentle grip but this is all about powerful, almost jammy fruit. The tannins fade on the long, supple finish, which leaves behind a strong echo of spices.  RP 95

Elderton Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

This is a single vineyard selection aged for 18 months in new French 300-liter barrels (aka hogsheads). It offers up a superb bouquet of pain grille, espresso, spice box, black currant, and blackberry liqueur. Opulent on the palate, it has gobs of succulent black fruit, well-concealed ripe tannins, impeccable balance, and a long finish.  RP 95

Greenock Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Greenock Creek Vineyard & Cellars, owned by Michael and Annabelle Waugh, remains one of South Australia’s iconic wineries. Start with a great terroir, add in old vine material and meticulous winemaking, and end with extraordinary results. This is aged in seasoned French hogsheads and is a glass-coating purple/black color. It exhibits an aromatic array of mineral, black currant, and blackberry followed by a dense, layered, succulent Cabernet with outstanding depth and concentration. RP 95
